MEC Poker Open Online schedule released!

MEC Poker Open Online Schedule

As already known, this year’s MEC Poker Open will be played online at Bwin. In the previous news item, we asked the community which buy in category they prefer. Approximately 70% indicated that they would prefer a $55 Main Event and a $109 Highroller. The MEC Poker open has decided in cooperation with Bwin to create the following tournaments.

The Main Event will be a $55,- single Re entry with a guaranteed prize pool of $10.000,-. The Main Event is a two day tournament with two starting days and one day 2. The Main Event will take place in the weekend of 17-19 October.

The Highroller will be a $109,- single Re entry with a guaranteed prize pool of $10.000,-. Also this tournament has 2 starting days and one day 2. The Highroller will take place in the weekend of 24-26 October.

Both tournaments are played under your real name. So you know exactly who you’re up against!

MEC Poker Open not live but online on Bwin!

MEC Poker Open not live due to Corona

Unfortunately, in consideration with Casino de Spa, the organization of the MEC Poker Open has decided that the fourth edition scheduled for October cannot take place. The reason for this is the corona measures that the casino has to comply with from the government. The maximum number of visitors that may enter the casino at the same time is so limited that it is not financially sustainable to organize the MEC Poker Open. In addition, we want the MEC Poker Open to remain an experience accessible to the entire community that has been established in recent years.

Online edition of the MEC Poker Open on Bwin

Aside from the fact that we’d all love to play poker live, we’re very pleased to be able to turn the MEC Poker Open into an online edition in October thanks to our main sponsor Bwin! The MEC Poker Open Online will be held from 15-18 October.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard on an online tournament schedule, but we’d like to hear and measure the opinions of the Community before releasing a final schedule. We are considering two options:

  • A $55 Main Event with a $109 Highroller
  • A $109 Main Event with $215 Highroller

Do you have a preference? Please let us know by filling in the survey below. We will be drawing one Bwin poker table among the people who complete the survey!

The results of the survey, the winner of the Bwin poker table and the tournament schedule for the MEC Poker Open Online will be announced on Tuesday, September 8th.

What will happen to my ticket?

Already bought a ticket for the MEC Poker Open? Your ticket will automatically be converted into a valid ticket for the next MEC Poker Open. This is scheduled from April 15-18, 2021 at Casino de Spa. You will soon receive a personal e-mail about this procedure.

Did you win a Highroller ticket via satellite? Then there are two options available. You can have your ticket converted to the next edition of the MEC Poker Open (April 15-18, 2021) or you can exchange the value of your Highroller ticket for tickets to the MEC Poker Open Online (October 15-18). We won’t know how many tickets this will be and what their value will be until we know the online tournament schedule. You will soon receive a personal e-mail about this procedure so that you can indicate your preference.

Did you win a Main Event Package via satellite? Then there are two options available regarding your Main Event ticket. You can have your ticket converted to the next edition of the MEC Poker Open (April 15-18, 2021) or you can exchange the value of your Main Event ticket for tickets to the MEC Poker Open Online (October 15-18). We won’t know how many tickets this will be and what their value will be until we know the online tournament schedule. You hotelroom will be automatically converted to the next edition (15-18 April 2021). You will soon receive a personal e-mail about this procedure, so you can indicate your preference regarding the Main Event ticket.

Have you booked a hotel room with us? We will cancel it for you free of charge. We will contact everyone who has booked his/her hotel room through the organization next week.

Online satellites currently canceled

The online satellites that are organized every Sunday at Bwin have been cancelled for the time being. When the tournament schedule for the MEC Poker Open Online is known, it may be possible to look into organizing a number of more satellites for this tournament.

You can still play every Sunday on our private cash game tables at Bwin! For more information click on the button below.

Can the MEC Poker Open take place in October?

There is a lot of uncertainty because of the corona virus. Likewise, many participants will wonder if the MEC Poker Open will continue in October. The organization of the MEC Poker Open and Casino de Spa are discussing possible scenarios. This is the current state of affairs.

The answer is for the time being, yes!

We watch the rest of the world play the first poker tournaments again in casinos. Not quite as we are used to, but with the necessary health measures. Since it’s still 3.5 months to go until the date the MEC Poker Open is scheduled, a lot can change. Both positive and negative.

For now, we’re assuming the positive scenario, which means that the MEC Poker Open in October will continue as planned. If health measures need to be taken (such as hand gel, mouth caps or plexiglass) in order for it to go through, we will first look at the organizational options for taking care of them. Then we will research and consider whether the measures do not affect the fun of the participants too much in a negative way.

What if it has to be cancelled anyway?

If the measures to deal with the corona virus persist for a longer period of time, it may be decided at some point that the MEC Poker Open cannot continue at Casino de Spa anyway. In that case it will be ensured that all participants who have purchased a ticket or qualified via one of the satellites at Bwin will be compensated appropriately.

One form of compensation could be that purchased tickets are moved to the next edition. The first edition for 2021 is already planned with Casino de Spa! Thanks to our main sponsor Bwin, we also have the opportunity to organize the MEC Poker Open online.

Should the situation change to such an extent that the organization decides to cancel the event in October or host it online, all players who have already purchased a ticket will receive an email about this. You can also check our website, Facebook and Instagram for the latest news.

Klik hier om het volledige nieuwsbericht in het Vlaams te lezen!

We proudly announce the full schedule of the MEC Poker Open October 2020. From 15 to 18 October you are able to play several fun poker events at Casino de Spa. Since we broke several records last edition we decided to add more starting days to the Main Event and also add extra Side Events spread over the weekend! You can buy all your tickets online on March 2 at 8pm!

Main Event gets more starting days

The €175,- Main Event gets two more starting days! The Main Event kicks off with an online starting day on Bwin (Day 1 Online). The first live starting day at Casino de Spa starts at 5pm on Thursday October 15 (1A). On friday you can play Day 1B at 2pm just as last year but this time there are only 90 seats available. The other 135 seats are added to one extra regular starting day on the same day starting at 7pm (1C). On Saturday there will be two more chances. At 1pm you can play Day 1D (180 seats) and in the evening we have our first Turbo starting day (1E) at 9pm with another 135 seats available!

Every starting day you can re-enter the tournament as much as you need untill Level 5. Countless opportunities for you to make it to Day 2! Also different from last year is that there will be an exciting bubble fase on Sunday, because the best 15% of the field is in the money instead of the previous ‘make day 2 and you’re in the money’ rule.

Winner of the MEC Poker Open Main Event October 2019: Domien Deconinck

Online qualifiers and Day 1 Online

Long before the start of the MEC Poker Open you will be able to qualify yourself online for the Main Event on Bwin. All satellite information and the schedule will be announced on April 6. The date for Day 1 Online will also be announced on April 6.

For every 9 players registered there will be one seat in the Highroller!

New Side Events with online registration

The previous editions we noticed that all players enjoyed the side events so much that we added a few more, so you can play poker all weekend long! On Thursday we have a brand new €90,- Short Deck Hold’em event at 8pm. On Saturday you get your chance to become the first winner of our €90,- Pot Limit Omaha  or, later that day, the new €70,- Knock Out! The popular side events from last year (€75,- Secret Bounty, €75,- P.K.O. and the €60,- Freeze out) are also on the schedule.

RECAP: Day 2 (Final day!)

Yesterday was the final day of the MEC Poker Open Main Event. 97 of the total 588 players made it to the money and battled on Day 2 for the title and the big trophy!

Day 2 had a livestream were you could follow the action from home. The livestream team of Pokercity BE made sure the tournament was broadcasted very professionaly. You can watch the livestream from yesterday here.

The first pay jumps

The first player who cashed in the MEC Poker Open Main Event was 🇧🇪  Valentin Jeukens. The min cash was €260,-. All the small stacks tried to dubble up at the beginning. After that 🇳🇱 Pascal Kuijper busted for €346. just as 🇫🇷 Giovanni Dupont and 🇧🇪 Maarten Verhaegen. The last pay jump before the break paid €442. Just before the break we lost 🇧🇪 Jorden Verbraeken, 🇳🇱 Marianne Stomp and runner up from last edition 🇧🇪 Tim Verheyen.

Final table

Almost the first hand of the final table it was 🇳🇱  Joris Dirks who busted first (9th – €1.315). Not long after that 🇩🇪 Zoltan Kon came in 8th place (€1.670) and 🇵🇱 Mariusz Maicher ended 7th for €2.120. After a short break of 10 minutes the last 5 players went back to the table to battle for the first prize. After some play 🇳🇱 Johannes Maas was the one who finished 5th (€3.765).

Three way deal

When Nicky busted the last three players asked for ICM. After a little discussion they shook hands on a three way deal! But all three wanted to win the title so they started playing again for the trophy!

He flopped trips with his K8 on a KKA board. Unfortunate for him his opponent had AK. First bust out!

There is always someone who busts first. Sadly for 🇳🇱 Margaret Joan Scharff it was her (un)lucky day. After she had AA twice already she decided to limp her third pair of Aces and only the big blind came along by checking his option. The flop came K J 8. She bet and got called. Turn was a 9 and again a bet an a call from the big blind. After a blank on the river she decided to check and the big blinds shoved on her. She decided to call and the big blind tabled K J for two pair.
